Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop Edition is released on Thursday 24 April. You can download it for free from here. Ubuntu 8.04 is nick-named “Hardy Heron”.

One of the interesting feature is Wubi. Wubi is Ubuntu’s single click installer for Windows. It allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu just like any other Windows application.

Other features are GNOME 2.22, GVFS (Virtual File System), new version of PulseAudio and many new GNOME applications. For a complete feature list refer to Ubuntu 8.04 Features.

Visual C++ 2008 Feature Pack final release is now available for download. Some of new features in this feature pack are:

Modern style user interface: This includes Ribbon style user interface, Office 2007, Office 2003 and Office XP look and feel, Visual Studio-style docking toolbars and panes, customizable toolbars and menus, advanced GUI controls and advanced MID tabs.
Implementation of TR1: which includes Smart pointers, Regular Expression parser, tuple container, new random number generator, type traits, etc…

I am experimenting with this and will post my views in 2-3 days.

According to Fedoraproject.org the Fedora 9 Final will be released on 13 May 2008. The Fedora 9 Preview is already released on 17 April 2008. Some of the new features are:

1. 2.6.24 based kernel.
2. GNOME 2.22
3. Online Desktop
4. KDE 4.0.2
5. PulseAudio
6. OpenOffice.org 2.4
7. Eclipse 3.3.1
8. PackageKit

Fedora 9 will include different Spins. Spins are variations of Fedora from a specific set of software packages. Fedora 9 Live images will be available for CDs USB disks.

Nokia has released another firmware update for the N82. Following are the changes:

New features/functionalities:
* Location tagging functionality added
* Widgets enabled
* Flash Lite 3.0 support
* BT AVRCP protocol support
Stability:
* When plugin/plug out USB or TV out cable phone crashes
* Phone freezes during music play
* Phone resets when pressing end key during alert
Messaging:
* Cannot receive SMS for some operator who support ‘Replace type’ of message
Camera:
* Camera overexposure improved
* Automatic screen rotation angle improvement
Browser:
* Stability improvements
* Memory leak during phone call and browsing corrected
Memory:
* Memory leak corrected in browser
* Memory leak corrected in CPSSignal
Gallery:
* Crash while file name included %marks is highlighted
* DRM video thumbnail corrupted
* Gallery crashes when video call is make from contacts

You can update the firmware using Nokia Software Updator (NSU) or you can go the next Nokia Care center and update the phone. I have already updated my N82 using NSU. The update went smooth and my mobile is working fine after the update.
